Locals offering free oranges to commuters in Tamenglong district

Imphal: With Christmas around the corner, people across the globe — especially Christians — are gearing up to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ in their own, unique ways.

Closer home in Manipur, some people in Tamenglong district are winning hearts for their sweet gesture and selfless acts in the run-up to the season of giving and sharing.

In several photos and videos that have now gone viral, villagers of Siguilong are seen stopping vehicles plying on National Highway 53 and distributing free oranges to commuters and passerby.

Under the theme, ‘Given is better than received’, the villagers — who are also members of the Siguilong Baptist Church (RNBA) under Tousem sub-division — are also heard sending Christmas greetings to the commuters while handing over the oranges to them.

The locals have once again proved how a small gesture of love can lift someone’s spirits and make their day.

The hill district of Tamenglong in Manipur is known for producing one of the best quality and highest number of oranges in the state. It is also set to celebrate the 16th state-level Orange Festival from December 16 to 18.
