Aizawl: The Assam Rifles has organised a ‘national interactive tour’ for 14 Mizo students and two teachers. State home minister Lalchamliana flagged off the contingent from the headquarters of the 46 Assam Rifles in Aizawl on Monday.

The tour will be held from December 2 to 14. The student outreach programmme is aimed to expose Mizo youths on various job opportunities across the country.

The tour is aimed to educate and motivate youth of Mizoram and to provide an insight into the rich heritage of the country through visit to premium institutes, renowned schools and colleges, historical monuments and other important landmarks in Delhi, Dehradun and Mussoorie. During the tour, participants will also get an opportunity to interact with several prominent personalities who can positively influence their young minds and motivate them to work hard and contribute actively in the Nation building process.

Brig Vinod S, DIG of 23 sector Assam Rifles, in his speech said that the current contingent will be visiting Delhi, Dehradun and Mussorie where they will be witness to the passing-out parade of gentlemen cadets at the Rashtriya Indian Military College.

They will also visit Lal Bahadur Shastri IAS Academy at Mussorie, the ITBP Academy and Forest Research Institute.

In his motivational speech to the Mizo youths, home minister Lalchamliana said, “I appreciate the efforts of the Assam Rifles for organising an educative tour of this kind. I pray that this interactive tour will motivate the youth of Mizoram.”

He also stressed that joining the army is a respectable job and more of the Mizo youths should aim for taking up military job as a career. He added that the Assam Rifles would organise more of such programmes in the future.

On the recruitment policy of the youths selected for the national interactive tour, Brig Vinod S said, “As Mizo youths get less exposure to the facilities available to the youths of the nation, and the country knows very less about Mizoram and vice-versa.”

He added that during the selection process, they choose students with a fair amount of communication skills from remote and border areas. An equal number of boys and girls is chosen.

He proudly stated that at the current moment there is a tour going on in Pune and Mumbai where the contingents are taken on a tour of National Defence Academy and Naval Dockyards in Mumbai.
