Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Friday evening chaired a cabinet meeting and decided to extend the ongoing state-level ‘Sangai Festival’ for two more days till December 2. The meeting was held at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
The announcement was made by the CM on his Twitter handle: “The State Government has decided to extend the schedule of the #ManipurSangaiFestival2019 for another two days. Welcome, one and all, and witness the cultural extravaganza and festivity at different venues of the Festival.”
Similarly, state tourism director W Ibohal Singh in a statement said, “In pursuance of the decision of the government of Manipur, the 10th Manipur Sangai Festival 2019 which was scheduled to close on November 30, 2019 has been extended till December 2, 2019.”
This year, amid the restive situation arising out of the boycott call given by the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on the festival, the number of visitors to the festival sites, being held at Hapta Kangjeibung, Lamboikhongnangkhong and Keibul Lamjao in Imphal, has drastically gone down, as per reports.
During the meeting, the state cabinet also decided to convene the 9th session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly from December 18.
Civil society organisations under COCOMI are demanding the state government to summon a special session of the Manipur State Legislative Assembly before the December 10, so that a fresh House resolution may be adopted for the interest of the state.
As per the report, key issues of the state, including the Naga peace talks, would be deliberated during the winter session of the state legislative assembly.
