Guwahati: Meghalaya Tourism launched its new logo during the Indian Super League (ISL) match held in Guwahati, Assam on Thursday. The new logo comes with an enchanting montage, subtle nods to the rich landscape and iconic features of the state painted in the colours of nature.
The iconic features inscribed in the new logo comes with an interesting and creative display of pitcher plant, living root bridge, Umngot river, which are among the famous icons of the state.

Believed to be the only species found in the country, pitcher plants are carnivorous plants endemic to Meghalaya. Known as ‘ tiew-rakot’ (demon-flower) in Khasi, the plant has long, oblong-lance shaped leaves which traps inside with the help of lid located on top of the plant and eventually digest the prey.
Meghalaya is rich in flora and fauna with thousands of unique species found.
Living root bridge, the major tourist attraction, is another nature’s bounty born to the State. The man-made living root bridge are made from the aerial roots of rubber fig trees by the forefathers of Khasi and Jaintia tribes of the state to provides alternative to wooden bridge.

There are over 100 living root bridges in the state found in different district of Khasi and Jainitia hills district and the site witness tremendous flow of tourist each year from across the globe and survey is underway for the heritage tag from UNESCO.
Another magnificent famous site inscribed in the logo is the ‘Umngot’ river located in Dawki of West Jaintia hills district bordering Bangladesh. Considered as one of the cleanest rivers in India, the on lookers usually feels the boats floating on it look as if they are on a crystal glass surface. Thousands of tourist from country and abroad visit the site. Umngot river is one of the most popular pictures on the Internet.

Last week, Meghalaya was recognised as the ‘favourite emerging destination’ in India by Conde Nast Traveller. The state has been witnessing a massive inflow of tourists by as much as 80%, both international and domestic, in the past 10 years.
