Imphal: United National Liberation Front (UNLF) chief Rajkumar Meghen alias Sanayaima on Thursday arrived at the Bir Tikendrajit Airport in Imphal from New Delhi amid tight security.
After seeing his people giving him a rousing welcome upon his arrival, the 75-year old rebel leader reassured the people of the state to continue working for their welfare. “I have been with the people all the time and I have never done anything to forfeit their trust and love. So, till the end of my life, I will be with the people of the state,” said Meghen.
The rebel leader was seen to be quite emotional having witnessed how his people stood beside him all throughout his journey.
From the airport, Meghen went to Kangla Fort and paid tributes at the fort’s four secret sites, including Iputhou Pakhangba, Iputhou Nongshaba, Iputhou Sanamahi and Chingkei Pukri, before finally leaving for his home at Yaiskul Janmasthan in Imphal.
The visit to Kangla Fort was not only about paying tribute, but for Meghen, it was also about achieving another milestone in his journey as he made his maiden visit to the historical place.
“It takes me back to our history on how it was developed and how it went through the challenges till now. However, I haven’t had any opportunity to visit this place though it is our ancestral place. This is the first time I am entering Kangla in such a close distance,” he added.
Meghen was released after serving for ten years in prison on charges of ‘waging a war against the country’. However, soon after his release from Guwahati Central Jail in Assam, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) whisked him away along with his son RK Chinglen and lawyer M Gunedhor Singh to New Delhi on November 10.
According to reports, the reason behind his detention after his release from prison was due to security reasons in the state.
