Guwahati: The coveted Black Lady is all set to enthrall Assam, as it was officially announced on Monday that the 65th edition of the Filmfare Awards will be held in Guwahati on February 15 next year.
During a press conference held at a city hotel, the government of Assam signed an MoU with The Times Group to play host to the extravagant Bollywood event for the very first time in the state.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, tourism minister Chandan Brahma, Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah, The Times Group managing director Vineet Jain, CEO of Worldwide Media Deepak Lamba and state tourism commissioner and secretary M Angamuthu.
Guwahati is hosting the awards show as part of the state government’s initiative to use Bollywood’s influence to promote Assam tourism at national and international levels.
In his address, CM Sonowal expressed his happiness at selecting Assam as the venue for the Filmfare Awards for the first time outside Mumbai. He said that this mega event by one of India’s most prestigious media organization would ensure showcasing of Assam as one of the most attractive tourist destination of the country before billions of people across the world.
Sonowal also added that the Assam government will bear the expense of Rs 23 crore for the event.
Speaking on the occasion, The Times Group’s Vineet Jain said, “As an illustrious and grand platform that promotes culture across the worlds, choosing Assam, a state rich in the performing arts, crafts and music, further extends the legacy of the Filmfare Awards.”
“Not only will the event witness the biggest names of the industry in attendance at Guwahati who will mesmerise audiences with their performances, but we also aim to extend the Indian film industry’s patronage to Assam’s growth and place it on the global map,” Jain added.
The first Filmfare Awards function was held at Mumbai Metro Cinema Hall on March 21 in 1954. Do Bigha Zameen was adjudged the best film at the awards function.
Over the years, Filmfare Awards have evolved to be the country’s longest running and most sought-after awards show. Breaking new grounds for the 65th edition of the most anticipated award ceremonies in the Indian film industry, Filmfare Awards have embarked on a new journey in one of the most scenic destinations in the country.
In a magnanimous celebration of talent, the gala event will once again bestow the artists of the film fraternity who have put in their hard work and dedication to excel in the field in the year 2019.
