Kokrajhar: Indonesian paragliders were the frontrunners in the first Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship-2019 which was concluded on Thursday after a four-day programme held at Dangdupur Hill in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

Altogether, 68 participants from 11 different countries including India participated in the championship and presented their paragliding skills.

There were 22 foreign participants including four women in the international championship, with six contestants from Indonesia, five each from China and Korea, four from Nepal, and one each from Japan and Taiwan. The host country India had 46 participants hailing from different states like Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, etc.

The championship was organised by the Tourism department of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration to promote adventure tourism and sporting arena in the region which started on November 11.

During the championship, paragliders from Indonesia in both male and female category won the first position.

In the male category, Jafro Megawanto of Indonesia bagged the first spot. China’s Yong Wu and Ardiansyah Mega Putra of Indonesia were adjudged second and third, respectively.

In the female category, Rika Winjanti and Gita Ringki Yauniti from Indonesia secured the top spot and second, respectively. Paraglider from Korea Jinhee Back was adjudged the second runner up.

During the four-day programme, Indonesia was adjusted first in the overall performance. China and Korea were adjusted second and third respectively.

The spot holders were given cash prizes of Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh along with gift items.

BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, BTC executive member Doneswar Goyary, BTC Principal Secretary Biren Chandra Phukon, SP Rajen Singh graced the occasion as guests during the prize distribution ceremony.

Korean woman paraglider Jerian Hah expressed her excitement over the paragliding championship said that the event has created amusement amongst the international participants. She said that the area where the event was organised was a good environment to fly. She said that the international event has been building healthy integration amongst the international paragliders.

Championship director Violeta Masteikiene from Lithuania expressed gratitude to the BTAD administration in Assam for organising the Paragliding championship. She said that the sports is the welfare for all peoples and thus, the international Paragliding accuracy event was successfully concluded on Thursday. The international participants showcased the paragliding spirits in heart of Dangdupur Hill in Assam’s Kokrajhar district. She has extended her sincere thanks to the organisers, especially BTC administration for sponsoring the event.

She informed that six foreign judges including chief judge from Slovania judged the event.

BTC deputy chief Borgoyary said that the international event has concluded has given an opportunity for international paragliders to get together in Bodoland region. He has thanked organisers, foreign participants for meeting a smooth and successful conclusion of the event. He emphasized that the BTC administration has been working for the uplift and development of the tourism sector in the region to make it globally recognised.
