How legendary drummer Chris Adler packed a punch in Meghalaya

Guwahati: Northeast experienced one of the finest drum clinics in the country recently when Chris Adler — the former drummer of the popular heavy metal band Lamb of God — made the fans from across the region go gaga over his drumming techniques.

The drum clinic was organised by MadClowns and SYNC media in collaboration with Gravity Talent.

The legendary drummer played six songs from his former band Lamb of God and two more from Megadeth, which he joined later between 2015-2017, at the central auditorium in University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya on November 12.

Adler shared his experiences from his decades of performing with various bands and also gave a very quick background on how he started to play the drums. “I am really not a teacher, I’ve never had a lesson in my life, I don’t know any music and I can’t speak the language of music necessarily but I can speak what I feel,” said the master drummer while giving a brief introduction about himself.

The crowd that gathered in hundreds to witness Adler play synced with him in songs such as Now you’ve got something to die for, Laid to rest, Redneck, etc. The drum clinic got more intimate with the crowd raising questions to the maestro and also thanking him for being there for them.

In a question that was raised by a member of the audience on how to overcome the fear of being judged by people while playing on stage, Adler replied that he also faces the same problem every time he is up on the stage. He added that one has to be bold and take the opportunity as one cannot achieve greatness without trying. He further added that there is no harm in trying and failing rather than failing without even trying.

The event was kicked off by a very powerful performance by Shillong band Wreckless Shadow, which made the crowd get into the mood of banging their head. The turnout of the crowd made the event more vibrant and also added a little touch of memory-making for Adler.
