Tengnoupal: Troops of Assam Rifles recently recovered a huge quantity of contraband drugs worth Rs 10.40 lakh from Manipur’s Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar, said reports.

During a routine check at Khudengthabi check-post, troops of Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (South) stopped a bus under suspicion. Khudenthabi is located mid-way between Moreh, a border commercial town in Manipur, and Imphal along the Myanmar border.

During search of the vehicle, the troops recovered two packets of heroin weighing approximately 26 grams and worth about Rs 10.40 lakh in the international market from one of the passengers, the reports said.

The arrested individual has been identified as Laikhogou, 64, from Churachandpur district, it said.

The detained individual along with the recovered items have been handed over to Moreh police station for further investigation.

As per reports, owing to the mounting cases of illegal drug haul in Manipur, the state government under the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) has launched a massive crackdown against the menace and instructed all law enforcement to step up stringent operation against smugglers, who often use the porous India-Myanmar borders to pump in or smuggle out drugs.
