Agartala: To press for their various demands, including immediate supply of ration and cash dole, an indefinite road blockade from Dasda Kanchanpur to Anandabazar area of North Tripura district called by inmates of seven transit camps in Tripura entered its second day on Friday.
The supply of ration and cash dole to these camps have been stopped since October 1 by the Union ministry of home affairs while the final phase of repatriation is on till November 30.
Speaking with EastMojo, sub-divisional magistrate Abhinandan Baidya confirmed that the ration supply to these camps has been stopped.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Bru Displaced People’s Forum (MBDPF) president A Sawibunga said that they have blockaded the road from Kanchanpur to Anandabazar demanding the immediate resumption of ration and cash dole which has been suspended from October 1 while the repatriation of displaced Brus from Tripura to Mizoram is still underway.
“This is a dawn-to-dusk road blockade, which started at 5 am and will conclude at 5 pm. The Centre has stopped our ration and other relief materials in the midst of the ninth phase of the ongoing repatriation process from October 1. Now, one month is already over. People are starving. We have been requesting them to resume the ration and other relief materials. But the government is maintaining silence as they are not doing anything in this regard,” Sawibunga told EastMojo.
He also said that despite their repeated requests to resume the supply of relief materials, the authorities concerned here are maintaining a surprising silence over the whole issue.
“More than 12,000 people have participated in the agitation. It’s inhumane and unconstitutional to stop ration as the repatriation will continue till November 30. It’s very difficult to live like this. Tomorrow again we will continue with our agitation. We will continue to do so till we don’t receive any positive response from the government,” the MBDPF president added.
