Aizawl: Kerala state BJP president PS Sreedhar Pillai will be sworn in as the new governor of Mizoram on November 5, officials sources said on Tuesday.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan in Aizawl and oath of affirmation will be administered by Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajay Lamba or his representative, the sources said.

Pillai is likely to arrive in Aizawl on November 4 to attend the swearing-in ceremony, sources said.

The Centre on Friday appointed Pillai as the new governor of Mizoram to replace Prof Jagdish Mukhi, the governor of Assam holding the top post in Mizoram on additional charge. He is the third man from Kerala to become Mizoram governor after Kummanam Rajashekaran and Vakkom Purushothaman.

Meanwhile, political parties and student bodies alleged that the Centre was using Mizoram as a dumping ground for governors. Congress has viewed the appointment of Pillai as the BJP’s attempt to penetrate into the Christian dominated state to make a base.

Congress spokesperson Lallianchhunga as reported earlier by EastMojo had said that the NDA government led by BJP was cunningly sending a BJP leader to Mizoram in order to make a base here.

People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (Prism) and Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) have asked the centre to provide a full-fledged governor, who can be stable and use his full term.

Kummanam Rajashekharan had quit as Mizoram governor on March 8 after serving for 10 months.

PRISM president Vanlalruata said that at least eight governors have been sacked, transferred and resigned since the BJP came to power in 2014. “No matter who the Centre send to Mizoram as governor, the person should be stable and use his full term. We want the Centre to give us stable government,” he said.

In 2015, as many as seven Mizoram governors were sacked and transferred by the Centre in quick succession.
