Agartala: In order to attend the organisational meeting and take a note on the party functioning in Tripura, Assam finance minister and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived int Agartala on Tuesday morning.
The BJP stalwart was received by West Tripura MP Pratima Bhowmik and party general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee from the MBB Airport in Agartala.
Speaking with EastMojo, Bhattacherjee said that the NEDA convenor visited the Shanti Kali Mandir in Khayerpur and also met chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma.
“Sarma called upon state BJP president and chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb in his official residence and had a discussion on a wide range of issues for the development of the state and strengthening the party in the state further,” Bhattacherjee said.
Later, taking to Twitter, Sarma said, “On a visit to Agartala, glad to have met Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb. We discussed a range of issues pertaining to the progress of the region. I complimented Biplab Deb for the good work being done by him to constantly take Tripura to new heights of prosperity”.
Sources from the party informed that no political meeting was chaired by Sarma but a short discussion with CM Deb was held where discussion on ADC polls and further strategies was taken up.
He also visited Shanti Kali Temple in Khayerpur along with the two party general secretaries and held a discussion with Maharaj Chitta Debbarma on various issues related to the tribal communities and prospects for their development during his visit on Tuesday. The meeting with the Maharaj was important keeping an eye to the upcoming ADC election next year.
Sharma also met with deputy chief minister Dev Varma and held a discussion on the ADC polls and other development-related work being carried out under the BJP-IPFT government before returning to Guwahati on Tuesday evening.
