Naga peace talks: ZUF inks ceasefire agreement with Centre

New Delhi: In a significant development, Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) signed a ceasefire agreement with Naga peace talks interlocutor and Nagaland governor RN Ravi in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The ZUF, a militant group founded in the year 2011, has already been dissolved permanently and merged with the GPRN/NSCN, headed by of N Kitovi Zhimomi.

In its declaration made on October 26, 2019, signed by its chairman Raitu Chawang and vice chairman S Kamson along with N Kitovi Zhimomi, ato kilonser of the GPRN/NSCN, and Alezo Venuh, special envoy to collective, GPRN/NSCN, ZUF stated, “After a series of deliberations between the GPRN/NSCN and ZUF in presence of the civil society of Zeliangrong, the ZUF on its own volition, will and determination for the bright future of the Nagas in general and specifically for the upcoming generations do hereby resolve to merge and be dissolved in the GPRN/NSCN and shall remain hereupon as one entity by all means and ways.”

It further stated, “Identity of Zeliangrong United Front shall cease to exist with this declaration from this date of 26th October, 2019.”

Former ‘kilo kilonser’ (home minister) and member of negotiating team of the Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM with the Centre, Hukavi Yepthomi, has already decided to leave the group and join the working committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPG).

The decision of the senior member of the NSCN-IM negotiation team to leave the organisation and join the NNPG, an umbrella organisation of seven insurgent groups, assumes significance as the ongoing Naga talks have been inconclusive despite three crucial meetings held in New Delhi during the month of October this year so far.

The third crucial dialogue to end the ‘deadlock’ to the Naga political talks between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) in New Delhi on Tuesday remained inconclusive yet again as both the sides were at loggerheads on the core issue of separate flag and constitution.
