Imphal: A day after the announcement of formation of a Manipur ‘government in exile’ by two self-styled leaders at a press conference in London, a case has been registered against the duo — Narengbam Samarjit Singh and Yamben Biren — at Lamphel Police Station in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Wednesday.
The duo, who claimed to represent the titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and announced the launch of ‘Manipur State Council ‘ in London on Tuesday, has been booked under Section 121 of the IPC, which is applied in cases where a person is waging a war against the state.
“The government is taking it very seriously and a case has been registered against them under the IPC for waging a war against the state. For immediate investigation, a case has been handed over to the special crime branch,” chief minister N Biren Singh told reporters.
The chief minister also informed that a case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after getting detailed information for proper investigation.
During the press meet, CM Singh also directed the police to investigate into Salai Holdings where Samarjit holds a position of chairman and managing director (MD) and his associates.
Anything related with Salai and Samarjit will have to be scrutinised within a week, including financial credibility, the CM said.
Meanwhile, Samarjit, who is also the president of North East India Development Party, on his message from the desk of chairman said that the important challenge in society, economics, politics, is to exploit the changes that have already occurred and to use them as opportunities.
However, a public notice issued by the board of directors, sitting and non-sitting board members of Salai Holdings and its subsidiary units said that they dissociate from the statement made by its chairman cum MD and his associate.
The statement also informed that the company has decided to process the removal of Samarjit from the list of directors after informing to the Registrar of Companies, Shillong and its department concerned and restructure the company structure and its policy.
