Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb after flagging off the inaugural AirAsia flight service from Agartala on Sunday

Agartala: Anybody found involved in corruptions and scams in Tripura will not be spared and would land up in jail, said chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Agartala on Sunday.

Speaking in the inaugural session of AirAsia services from Agartala, Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Deb said that no compromise would be made against those found involved with charges of corruption.

“Anybody from any political party and position will not be spared when found involved with corruption. Those who will try to compromise and help the corrupt will also land up in jail,” Deb said.

He said this while indicating to former PWD minister Badal Chowdhury, who was booked in PWD scam of over Rs 600 crore.

Nine police officials, including the West Tripura SP, were also suspended for their failure in nabbing the former minister after the court canceled the bail application of the former minister on October 16.

The chief minister also congratulated the people of Tripura on receiving another airlines service, AirAsia, from Agartala and said there was a time when Spice Jet Airlines had decided to revoke their services from Agartala.

“I had personally met with then Union minister of state for civil aviation, Jayant Sinha and requested him to look into the matter so that the number of flights from Agartala could be increased. He assured me to offer all possible help. Sinha himself held meetings and personally looked into this matter, therefore, today the number of flight here has increased,” Deb said.

The chief operation officer of AirAsia, Sanjay Kumar, speaking with reporters said that AirAsia was looking for its growth plan for the last few months and as a part of this plan, Agartala provides a greater opportunity with the number of tourists, businesses and economic activities.

“We thought there is an opportunity since there is only one airline operating the state also with a high fare price whereas AirAsia provides service at a cheaper cost. We have decided to start flight between Agartala and Kolkata, which would be 14 flights in a week, two flights for Delhi and Agartala to Imphal and Guwahati alternate flights. Later we will be adding a flight between Agartala to Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai. This is our 20th destination in the network,” Kumar added.
