Guwahati: The cultural stereotype of lahe lahe, which describes the easy and laidback nature of the Assamese community, is slowly on the wane with path-breakers like sprinter Hima Das, boxers Lovlina Borgahain and Jamuna Boro, besides many others bringing laurels to the state.

This was highlighted by supermodel, actor, ultraman and Pinkathon founder Milind Soman at a press conference on Thursday. He was in Guwahati to kick off the 5th edition of Pinkathon Guwahati 2019, which will be organised in the city on November 17.

“Assam is known as the land of lahe lahe but not everybody is lahe lahe. There are people who are not lahe lahe and we, now, get that under them, under the banner of Pinkathon, they start inspiring all the lahe lahe people by their example,” Soman said.

Pinkathon is India’s biggest women marathon have which encourages and promotes fitness and health among women and create awareness for breast cancer and other issues relating to women’s health.

Over 275,000 women have ran so far in the last eight years since its inception across multiple cities.

Milind, whose wife belongs to Assam, mentioned about his inclination towards Guwahati and how the Pinkathon participants here are different from other cities.

“One difference is off course the demographics — the participants are younger and that’s something that we want to balance. Because in other cities, we want more younger women to run and in Guwahati we want more older women to run,” he said.

Besides, the event sees many women, who sets the trend by coming forward and inspiring the rest through their testimonies. Purabi Kalita ,a cancer survivor; Dolly Rajbongshi, a visually impaired runner; Dr Shilpi Kropi, who has been baby wearing and carrying her babies to a few treks, have been named mascots for this year’s Pinkathon, a reason to celebrate womenhood.
