A demo mattress made of waste plastic bottles tied with nylon robe and CPUC pipe

Guwahati: Tourist spots are often littered with waste, most visible of those items being used plastic bottles. A tourist hotspot in Meghalaya — Sohbar Adventure Camp — however, saw an idea in this waste; it has started created floating mattress out of those discarded plastic bottles for its guest campers.

Speaking with EastMojo, camp co-owner John Daniel M Momin said it was just an experiment to make floating mattresses using discarded 1-litre plastic water bottles tied with nylon robe and CPVC pipe to keep the bottles in place.

Beside crystal-clear river Wahrew, Sohbar is a village located on top of the hills surrounded by thick forest located in Shella Bholaganj block of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya — around 50 km from Shillong, the state capital.

The experiment has now culminated into many other interesting ideas to beautify the place with waste materials and ease the pain of the caretakers.

“Right now, this is just an experiment. We have other things such as hookah bottles, wine bottles and toilet walls that we are making out of plastic bottles,” the owner added.
