Aizawl: Mizoram’s chief minister Zoramthanga flagged off the first GoAir Airbus 320 flight between Aizawl and Guwahati on Tuesday from Lengpui Airport in Aizawl.

The GoAir Airbus 320 will be operating flights between Aizawl and Guwahati till October 26 after which additional flights to Kolkata will be added from October 27.

GoAir airline is the first to operate flights between Aizawl and Guwahati after Jet Airways withdrew operations from February 10 this year — during which the state faced major inconveniences due to lack of flights outside of the state.

Zoramthanga thanked the airline for resuming flights between Aizawl and Guwahati. He stated that this flight will be beneficial for students, merchants and patients who have been referred to hospitals outside of Mizoram.

GoAir starts flight between Aizawl and Guwahati

The chief minister added that Lengpui Airport will be renovated to accommodate flights by other airlines.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) regional executive director Sanjeev Jindal and GoAir vice president Harjinder Singh Bhasin thanked CM Zoramthanga for his efforts and said that these additional flights to the state will help promote tourism for Mizoram.

The schedules announced by GoAir stated that the flights from Guwahati will depart at 6.50 am and reach Lengpui Airport at 7.50 am, while departure from Lengpui will be at 8.40 in the morning and the flight will arrive Guwahati by 9.50 am.

With the addition of flights to Kolkata from October 27, flights will depart from Kolkata at 10 am and reach Aizawl by 10.55 am. It will leave for Guwahati at 11.25 am. From Guwahati, it will continue its flight to Aizawl at 1.15 pm. Flight to Kolkatta will depart at 3.05 pm from Lengpui Airport.

GoAir is a low-cost airline owned by Wadia Group. It started its operation in 2005 with 325 daily flights across the country, Aizawl is its 25th domestic destination.
