Naga peace talks: Ceasefire body holds meet with 3 NSCN factions

Kohima: Three factions of the insurgent outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) — NSCN (Khango), NSCN (Unification) and NSCN (Reformation) — on Monday held a meeting with the chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) and Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB), Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan, at the CFMG/CFSB complex in Kohima.

As per a statement released by the CFMG/CFSB on Monday, it stated that with the Naga Peace talks undergoing a “critical juncture”, the meeting was held to discuss “ceasefire-related issues in Nagaland”. It was also mentioned that the meeting was attended by the respective CFSB members from the groups led by its supervisor.

In the statement released by the ceasefire monitoring committee, all the three factions of the NSCN were directed to maintain utmost restraint and to strictly adhere to the ceasefire ground rules so that no issues disrupt the ongoing Naga peace talks, which would be concluded any time soon.

It further notified that the CFMG will be also holding a meeting with the NSCN (IM) on Tuesday. It is informed that all meetings between the NSCN groups and the CFMG/CFSB are in relation to cease fire ground rules.

According to a news by EastMojo in the month of August, Nagaland governor and interlocutor for Naga peace talks RN Ravi during a civic reception held at NBCC hall in Kohima, quoted the Prime Minister saying that “we must conclude the process, the peace process and have resolved all the (substantive) issues, we must do it within three months time”.

If the three months’ deadline is to be met, the peace talk is likely to be concluded by this month. However, the recent inconclusive meeting, as reported earlier, following the crucial talks between the Union government and the NSCN (IM) on Thursday, has pushed the fate of the Naga peace talks into uncertainty.
