Shillong: Meghalaya is all set to host the second edition of ‘The Hills Festival 2019’ at Umbir in Ri Bhoi district from October 18-19.

Organised by Helping Young People Entertainment (HYPE), the festival aims to give a platform to young local artistes to showcase their talent in music, especially for ones that lack source and income. The two-day event will also give them an opportunity to meet international artistes who will be performing at the festival.

“There will be almost 17 artistes who would be performing at the festival this year. This festival will not only be a music festival but other activities like games will also be present. We also have a safe environment for children. There will be a special act, a team of musicians who are farmers from Smit and they will be performing in this two-day festival. This year, a specialty will also be the hot air balloon ride which will go up close to 40 feet; the cost of this ride would be Rs 500 for a duration of 7 to 10 minutes,” said Gerald Duia, the in-charge of public relations of HYPE.

As per the organisers, the festival aims to promote eco-friendly products. “So, plastic lovers will definitely have to leave behind non-eco-friendly items if they wish to attend the festival. Also, the festival restricts anyone from bringing plastic bottles, chips packet and even beer bottles to the venue. But one can definitely bring their own water bottles and a can of beer,” the organisers added.

Here is a line-up of a few artistes slated to perform at the festival this year:
