The accused is a cop

Aizawl: The Mizoram state women’s commission on Friday vehemently condemned the death of a woman, who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, who is a cop.

The commission also demanded stringent punishment against the accused.

A statement issued by the commission on Friday said that PC Vanlalringa, 50, a resident of Pukpui village in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district had severely assaulted and beaten up his wife Lalhlimpui, 42. The incident occurred at Zawlpui village in Mamit district at around 10 pm on October 6.

Vanlalringa was an Indian Reserved police and posted at Zawlpui village at the time of incident.

Soon after the incident, the victim was rushed to Zawlnuam hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on the night of October 6, the statement said. Post-mortem report revealed that the victim sustained three broken ribs and signs of heavy blows on her abdomen.

The commission expressed grief over the death and severely condemned the accused for his brutal act. The accused, Vanlalringa, was arrested by the police on Sunday night and was sent to a district jail.

Hundreds of women belonging to Mizo Hmeichhia Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the apex women’s body in the state, on Monday staged rally at Zawlpui village in protest against the heinous incident. The women body had also demanded severe punishment against the accused.
