Kohima: Amid severe landslides along NH-29, lone Nagaland Member of Parliament (MP) Tokheho Yepthomi apprised Union minster of road transport and highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari over the four-laning work of the crucial stretch from Dimapur to state capital Kohima.
Taking to twitter on Wednesday, Yepthomi wrote: “Met @nitin_gadkari ji along with GM @nhidcl regarding the slow progress of 4 lane road between Dimapur-Kohima. Hon’ble Minister has assured to accelerate construction of this crucial road.”
A copy of a letter, dated October 8, signed by Yepthomi, who attached it with his tweet, read: “This is the most important road in the state for which you had laid the foundation stone in 2015. You are aware that the work has been undertaken by the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) with a construction period of 3 (three) years.”
“The work is well over the stipulated time and is nowhere near completion. Portions of road that are completed have already developed potholes, which only shows very poor workmanship managed by sub-contractors”.
Yepthomi highlighted the plight of the state saying : The people are facing immeasurable problems due to the delay and poor workmanship of this vital road to our state capital from our commercial capital.
“It has become routine for people traveling on this road to take diversions to alternate routes, which extends the travel time by more than three hours. Traffic jams on this route have also become a routine exercise for passengers who are frequently stuck for hours at a stretch and overnight at times,” the letter read.
“I have also raised this issue on the floor of the house, but to no avail,” he said and urged Gadkari’s intervention on the matter.
