Kokrajhar: A national wushu player and gold medalist from Assam’s Kokrajhar district is grappling with financial crunch to participate in his next big tournament to be held in China from October 17.
Sanma Brahma, a 21-year-old youth hailing from Haloadal village in Kokrajhar, is all set to participate in the 15th World Wushu Championships (15th WWC) to be held in Shanghai. However, shortage of money is coming in the way of his target.
Team India is leaving on October 14 for the eight-day-long tournament.
Brahma has so far participated and won medals in several state and national wushu championships in his 12-year sports career. The third-semester BA student from Cotton University in Guwahati is currently being coached in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
However, Brahma has been reportedly facing financial crisis to participate in the world championships.
Sanma’s father, Rakesh Brahma, said that he approached Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) executive member for sports and youth welfare Doneswar Goyary and BTC CHD for sports for financial assistance, but to no avail.
In a letter, the sports and youth welfare department informed that it does not have available funds at present to help Sanma, said his father.
Sanma’s father said that he approached all persons concerned for financial assistance, however, as of now, he has not got proper support to send his son for the championships.
Brahma has now prayed and made an appeal to sports lovers and well-wishers of the country to come forward and lending a helping hand for his 21-year-old son to fulfill his dreams.
