Imphal: In yet another big blow to the illicit drug trade in Manipur, troops of Assam Rifles on Tuesday seized contraband items worth Rs 1.41 crore in the international market from Ukhrul district.
Based on specific intelligence regarding transportation of contraband items, personnel of Assam Rifles intercepted and arrested a suspect near Aishi village in Ukhrul district, said a security official.
According to an official release, the arrested drug peddler has been identified as Thongkhomin Haokip, a resident of Aishi.
During a thorough search, the team recovered and seized contraband items, including 700 gram of brown sugar and 300 World is Yours (WIY) tablets worth Rs 1.41 crore in the international market.
As per the police report, the arrested drug-peddler along with recovered items have been handed over to Chassad Police Station for further investigation.
Earlier, the troops also arrested two persons and recovered brown sugar and WIY tablets worth Rs 7.2 crore at Khudengthabi check-post in Tengnoupal district.
