Guwahati: A Class XI student of a school in Guwahati has been a victim of alleged sexual abuse at the hands of family members for years.
The incident came to light only after a senior journalist from Assam lodged a complaint against the alleged crime meted out to the girl at the women’s police station in Pan Bazaar on Friday.
As per sources, the victim was staying with her maternal aunt after her mother married another man following the sudden death of her father several years ago.
The victim had been purportedly abused by her maternal uncle and his sister’s son on several occasions ever since she started staying with them. Fed up of this, she informed the same to her paternal uncle.
The paternal uncle took the victim her from her aunt’s residence, but later, he too started molesting her.
The victim had first confessed the series of incidents to her teachers at school, but they failed to raise a voice on behalf of the girl. However, after receiving information from sources, the senior journalist immediately registered a complaint at the women’s police station.
Meanwhile, Assam Police has initiated an investigation into the incident immediately after the complaint and successfully detained the victim’s maternal uncle from Guwahati and her paternal uncle from Nagaon. However, efforts are on to trace and arrest the third accused who is on the run.
Speaking to media, Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar informed that cops have recorded a statement of the victim and are interrogating the accused to dig out more information in connection to the case.
“We are also interrogating the victim’s aunt to find out more about the alleged molestation,” Kumar added.
Kumar also revealed that the girl first fell prey to the alleged molestation from her uncle when she was in Class VII.
