Tinsukia: Carcasses of a young male leopard and a black panther were recovered from Borhapjan, around 17 km east of Assam’s Tinsukia district, on Friday.
Speaking with EastMojo, divisional forest officer (in-charge) of Doomdooma forest division Nityanand Dihingia said, “Based on an information, a team of forest officials recovered the carcasses of a leopard and a black panther near a private garden at 3 number Naharoni Shantipur, around 6 km from National Highway 37 in Borhapjan.”
“The carcasses were recovered from same spot,” Dihingia said, adding: “Autopsy of both the carcasses was carried out.”

Didingia said, as per the veterinary doctor who carried out the post-mortem, there are no external injuries. “Hence, prima facie, it seems to be a case of chemical poisoning, may be as a result of pesticides used in the tea garden,” he said, adding: “We have collected samples of lever, stomach and other necessary parts for examination.”
According to a source, the carcasses were later buried in the premises of Doomdooma DFO’s office after performing rituals.
