Kokrajhar: Two leopards were found dead at Narayanguri inside Manas National Park (MNP) in lower Assam’s Baksa district on Friday. The forest department has apprehended one person for his alleged involvement in the incident.
MNP aassistant director Raghunath Boro said that the two carcasses were found at Narayanguri inside the national park, which they suspect to be a case of death due to food poisoning. He further informed that a postmortem was conducted by veterinary doctors on Friday.
Boro, however, has not ruled out the involvement of poachers or persons living in the nearby areas.
Meanwhile, the forest department has arrested one person from Narayanguri village for his involvement in the incident. He was identified as Hanif Ali. A poisonous medicine was recovered from his residence during search operation conducted after the carcasses of the leopard were found.
Boro also informed that Manas National Park would be reopened for visitors from October 4 onwards. BTC deputy chief and in-charge of forest department, Kampa Borgoyary, will be the chief guest during the opening ceremony, he added.
