Guwahati: In a shocking CCTV video that is now doing the rounds of social media, Rajen Singh, the superintendent of police (SP) in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, is seen allegedly assaulting executive magistrate Sailen Das inside a hotel complex.
The incident happened on the intervening night of September 9 and 10 but the CCTV footage was made public only recently by prominent RTI activist Dulal Bora.
A compilation of footage sourced from various CCTV cameras installed inside the hotel shows Singh allegedly dragging out Das from inside the hotel and slapping him in the parking lot in the presence of several people, including security personnel.
Meanwhile, RTI activist Bora alleged that the incident took place in a party organised at the hotel in Kokrajhar, which was attended by senior officers of the district administration including Singh and Das. “The incident took place on September 9. However, since the assault took place between 12 and 12.15 am, the CCTV footage shows the date as September 10,” Bora said.
During the programme, some of the senior district administration officials were performing songs and other items. According to Bora, when Das requested the SP to sing a song with him, the latter allegedly went to the stage and dragged him out of the stage in front of the guests. “Not satisfied with this, the SP then slapped the magistrate and continued to assault him in front of many junior-level employees at the parking area, despite the magistrate’s repeated apologies to the SP,” Bora alleged.
