Diphu: Three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the rape of a minor girl in Diphu in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.
As per sources, three persons, identified as Tendon Ingti (29), Chesong Ingti (19) and Birsing Bey, who fled from the area immediately after committing the crime, were picked up by the police from different locations, including Dimapur in Nagaland and Manja locality of the district, on Thursday.
The security forces managed to trace the culprits using the cellphone locations of the trio. While, the police traced Tendon Ingti, who was hiding in Dimapur, with the help of his phone number provided by his parents, Chesong Ingti and Birsing Bey were picked up from Manja locality based on the information received from Tendon.
Speaking to the media, DSP (headquarters) N Karishma informed that the incident took place between 12 noon and 4 pm at a rented house near Basic LP School Colony of Diphu on September 17. She further informed that the incident came to light only after they received information of a minor rape victim being admitted at Diphu Civil Hospital on September 17 night.
Karishma further revealed that the accused committed the heinous crime in the absence of the owner of the house, Beauty Ingtipi, who incidentally happened to be the sister of an accused, Tendon Ingti.
“Upon interrogating Beuty Ingtipi about the whereabouts of her brother, she provided us with his number and through this we managed to trace him in Dimapur where he was hiding,” the DSP added.
Meanwhile, a case under Section 6 of POCSO Act has been registered against the accused at Diphu police station and the trio taken into judicial custody.
