Guwahati: Assam police along with a team of Special Rhino Protection Force in a joint operation nabbed a five-member gang of rhino poachers from Assam’s Biswanath district on Wednesday.

The members of the arrested rhino poachers’ gang were identified as Budhindra Kaman, Pranab Kutum, Subhan Kutum, Shivguru Pegu and Kuwati Pegu.

As per sources, the crime investigation range of the forest department in Biswanath after receiving specific inputs directed the joint team of security force and nabbed the gang poachers red-handed while they were allegedly dealing to sell rhino nails.

According to reports, the poachers’ gang was going to have a deal to sell the rhino nails, nearly 12 of them in number, at a cost of Rs 6,000 each.

Four mobile phones, one motorcycle and nearly 12 rhino nails were recovered from the gang members

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the poachers’ gang was involved in a rhino poaching incident that took place at Gohpur Lokhra Chapori under Gomiri forest range on April 8 last year.

Security forces recovered at least four mobile phones, a motorcycle and nearly 12 rhino nails from the possession of the arrested poachers.
