Kohima: The regional transport office under the transport department of Odisha government on August 10 imposed a fine of Rs 6,53,100 over seven charges on a Nagaland-registered truck bearing registration number NL 08-D-7079 in Sambalpur. The matter came to light only on Saturday after a photo of the challan surfaced on social media.
As per the challan, out of the Rs. 6,53,100, a sum of Rs 6,40,500 was charged under the old Motor Vehicles Act as road tax from July 21, 2014 to September 30 this year.

The other charges include Rs 100 for general offence; Rs 500 for disobedience of orders/obstruction; Rs 1,000 for violating air and noise pollution; Rs 5,000 for carrying passengers in a goods vehicle and Rs 1,000 for plying without insurance.
Earlier, the transport ministry has listed all laws that have come into effect from September 1 through a notification dated August 28. While most states have implemented the revised Motor Vehicles Act, 2019, Nagaland is yet to roll out the legislation in the state.
