Kokrajhar: United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Urkhao Gwra Brahma while speaking at a press conference at the Press Club in Kokrajhar on Friday emphasised on the seat-sharing method with ruling Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections due in 2020.
Brahma also reacted to a recent statement made by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary saying that no seat-sharing will be done with UPPL, but will only eye for political unification of parties. Brahma said that there was only preliminary communication between both parties over integration building ahead of the council elections, adding that there was no discussion held on seat sharing so far.
The UPPL was coming out for the people of the region which is in their ideology and will also be stepping up for the welfare of people in days to come, added Brahma.
While reacting strongly to the statement of Mohilary who had emphasised on the unification of the UPPL with BPF and also offered Rajya Sabha seat and several seats for MCLA in the upcoming council general elections, Brahma said that it was totally politicised over the election by the ruling BPF party.
Brahma added that Mohilary has been trying to take advantage by politicising the seat-sharing issue in the region and has been emphasising on political unification.
Brahma questioned Mohilary and asked him to first dissolve BPF and then ask his party to join hands for the greater interest of the region. He further added that UPPL wants a united society, so BPF must show their sincerity to be unified by breaking down their party first and then UPPL will automatically extend its support.
The leader of the UPPL party said that UPPL has been stressing on seat sharing in the upcoming BTC election. He has also opined that deep discussion has been going on between both parties over the seat-sharing for the council elections, and for this, they needed to build a good communication and relationship.
The UPPL leader at the end stated, “Door is still open to discussing on the seat-sharing and good communication in between two parties.”
