Tinsukia: The Charaideo police seized around 1,000 cartons of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) from a truck at Namtola on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday and arrested the driver.
The driver has been identified as Mohammad Manzoor.
Talking to EastMojo, Charaideo superintendent of police (SP) Anand Mishra said that based on an information regarding smuggling of 1,000 cartons of IMFL, an operation was launched. “The police team, led by Sonari SDPO Tridip Kumbang, intercepted the truck (bearing registration number AS02AC1593) between Moranhat and Sepon and was brought to Moranhat police station for investigation and verification,” he said.

“On checking the goods, it was found that the truck was carrying 1,000 cartons of IMFL worth around Rs 25 lakh from Banderdewa in Arunachal Pradesh to Amguri in Assam for further black marketing in Nagaland,” said Mishra, adding, “The truck has been seized along with the goods.”
A case has been registered and investigation to unearth all those involved in the illegal activity has started.

“’Only for sale in Arunachal Pradesh’ was superscribed on the bottles. The superintendent of excise has issued a certificate stating that the entire consignment was illegal and being smuggled,” he added.
According to a source, the police led by SP Mishra, has started operations against all types of syndicates that are active in the district. “Roles of some members claiming to be office bearers of some social organisations is being thoroughly investigated,” the source added.
