Tinsukia: In a major twist, two persons, including a minor, has been arrested for allegedly raping and killing a seven-year-old girl in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Thursday night.
The body of the victim was recovered lying in a pool of blood in a paddy field around 200 metres from her residence in Monjuli village under Dhekiajuli circle. Her private parts were found ruptured by a sharp object and her neck slit, as per the police.
Speaking with EastMojo, Sonitpur superintendent of police (SP) Kumar Sanjit Krishna said, “The prime accused is a 14-year-old juvenile. His accomplice has been identified as Alfred Suren, 25.”
“Based on some clues during investigation, we arrested both the youths, who have accepted to their involvement in the henious crime,” Krishna added.
“It has been learnt during interrogation that the juvenile had said some bad things to the victim three months ago. The victim told her father, who in turn, shouted at him and since then he was waiting to take revenge,” the SP said.
On Thursday night, around 10.30, the duo dragged her out, while her father was not at home and her elder brother (8) was sleeping, and took her to the nearby paddy field where they raped and killed her. “We have seized two sharp objects from their possession. We are interrogating them to build up the entire sequence of events that led to the crime,” he added.
Earlier, the victim’s father, Rajib Minj, who is an alcoholic, was taken into detention as a suspect in the case.
