Aizawl: Mizoram won the 46th National Sub-Junior Basketball Championship which was held from September 3 to 9 in Cuttack, Odisha. The team from Northeast India defeated Punjab by 51-46 in the finals held on Monday to bag the prestigious tournament.

It was a great game where both the teams played immensely well. During the second half time, Punjab led the game. But Mizoram made a great comeback towards the end which helped them to win the game.

The Mizoram team led by manger Dennis and coach Mark L Sailo said that they prayed to God for strength during the entire tournament. Although their journey from Mizoram was challenging, the camaraderie between the players and their coach and manager helped them to overcome their problems and win the championship.

Players are selected every year by the Mizoram Basketball Association, who conduct trials and select the best players from the state. Later, the selected players go through immense training before participating at the national level.
