Guwahati: Rashtriya Bajrang Dal’s Assam unit has called for a 12-hour bandh across the state with effect from 5 am on Friday in protest against the exclusion of a large number of Hindus, especially Bengali-speaking people, from the recently published final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
In a statement, the civil organisation has appealed the public and business establishments across Assam to support the bandh and make it a successful one.
Massive protests are being staged at several places across Assam over the exclusion of a large number of Hindu Bengali-speaking people from the final NRC. Effigies of state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela were burnt and slogans raised to protest against the alleged exclusion of names from the list despite providing documents proving their indigenity.
Notably, over 19 lakh people have been excluded in the recently published NRC in Assam out of a total of 3.29 crore people who applied for inclusion of their names in the final list.
