Aizawl: At the age of 51 years, Rebecca Saimawii is a fitness icon for many Mizo women. One of the most popular artistes known for having a fit body in Mizoram, she started her music career way back in the 1980s.
She has over 60 songs to her credit and is currently holding a ‘B high grade’ artist title in All India Radio. She was also the judge of a popular talent competition called Mizo Idol from 2007 to 2013.
But what sets her apart from other Mizo celebrities and artists is her enthusiasm towards maintaining a healthy physique and her fight to attain her dream of being a sports nutritionist and a fitness trainer.
As Saimawii has always endorsed working towards having a fit body to attain self-confidence, she decided to train as an instructor to impart her passion to others. She is the first Mizo lady to be certified by Gold’s Gym, an American chain of international co-ed fitness centres, in Bengaluru .
Speaking to EastMojo, Saimawii describes her journey: “I’ve always been a fitness enthusiast and have regularly jogged since 2011. Even after having four children, I always maintain a fit body. In 2018, I finally fulfilled my dream and became an advanced personal trainer from Gold’s Gym.”
She added that working towards her dream was no mean feat. Training at Gold’s Gym requires constant physical training and perfecting the theory classes.
“I am a perfectionist who always aims to attain the best whenever I work towards a goal. Keeping my disadvantages aside (having four kids and crossing the age of 50), I slogged on the theory even at home, while cooking and taking care of the kids. My hard work pays off and I topped my batch in the gym,” she says.

Saimawii proudly talks about her achievement. “I deserve what I have as I have worked so hard for it. Besides God’s blessings, I maintain a strict diet and constant physical exertion for a fit and healthy body,” she says.
Besides being a talented artist and a fitness instructor, Saimawii is a philanthropist working towards the upliftment of children living with AIDS in Mizoram. She also holds the record for being Mizoram’s top blood donor among women — she has donated 61 units of whole blood and three units of platelets so far.
