Aizawl: After the exclusion of almost 19 lakh people from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on Saturday, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) — the apex students’ body of the state — has asked the state government to tighten security along Assam’s border.
Meeting with Mizoram home minister Lalchamliana on Saturday, MZP raised concerns stating that when the draft list was prepared by Assam last year, many infiltrated into the state. Likewise, after the final list on Saturday, many more will infiltrate through the border using temporary and inner line permits (ILP).

Talking to chief secretary Lalnunmawia Pachuau over the phone, Lalchamliana instructed him to tighten security at the check posts along Assam’s border and to increase police personnel there.
He further instructed to halt issuing of temporary and inner line permits to those excluded from the NRC list at all districts in Mizoram.
“The state government is taking stringent steps to prevent illegal infiltration. We will strengthen all the police check posts at the Assam-Mizoram border and demand the NRC list to anyone applying for inner line permits,” Lalchamliana said.
