Swachh Bharat: Nagaland’s Temsutula Imsong wins big at Devi Awards

Kohima: At the 17th edition of the Devi Awards held in Kolkata, West Bengal on Saturday night, Naga social worker Temsutula Imsong, along with eight other recipients, including Mizoram’s Laldinsangi, Lalsangzeli and Lalrinpuii, were awarded with the prestigous Devi Awards for their contribution in their respective fields.

Taking to Twitter, Temsutula Imsong tweeted: “It was indeed heartening to be at the @Devi_Awards event #Kolkata.

THANK YOU feels too less to convey my gratitude and the responsibility that I feel upon receiving it. This is a recognition for every person who is devoting himself or herself for the  cause of #SwachhBharat.”

As reported by EastMojo earlier, Imsong began to clean up ghats along the river Ganga in the districts of Varanasi and Ghazipur along with the volunteers of the not-for-profit organisation, Sakaar Sewa Samiti, declared her war on filth in February 2013.

The 36-year-old got a boost in October 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) or ‘Clean India Mission’ on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and ever since she has been promoting the message of health, sanitation and hygiene.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter saying “Congratulations @temsutulaimsong on receiving @Devi_Awards from @smritiirani, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles and Women & Child Development. You deserve the award that celebrates unique achievements of working women who display innovation & dynamism. #Nagaland is proud of you.”

Meanwhile, three sisters from Mizoram — Laldinsangi, Lalsangzeli and Lalrinpuii — were also awarded the Devi Awards for their contribution in transforming women’s fashion.
