Tripura Cong calls for 24-hr strike in Unakoti district on Sept 5

Agartala: The Unakoti unit of the Congress has called for a 24-hour strike in the district on September 5 following the alleged vandalising of its Kailashahar office by supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, apart from fulfilling of its six-point charter of demands.

Speaking at a press conference in Agartala on Friday, former president of the state unit of the party, Birajit Sinha, also demand immediate arrest of miscreants involved in the ransacking incident.

“The state law-and-order situation has totally collapsed. Murders, atrocities on women and crimes have taken an ugly shape within a short spell of time since the change of guard in Tripura last year,” Sinha said.

He further said that the ruling government has totally failed in fulfilling the aspirations of the people who voted in favour of change in the last assembly elections.

Highlighting the local issues, Sinha said flood victims are yet to get compensation as per the assurances given by chief minister. Besides, he alleged that huge amounts of money meant for construction of the Manu river embankment have been siphoned of by local leaders.

Earlier on August 28, the Kailashahar Congress party office in Unakoti district was vandalised by a group of miscreants following which the party had to register its protest and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. However, nobody has been arrested so far, Sinha added.
