Guwahati: The Assam government on Friday gave an extension of three months to state Director General of Police (DGP), Kuladhar Saikia, just a day ahead of the final publication of the National Register of Citizens in Assam on Saturday.
The top cop, who was slated to retire from his service on August 31 this year, got an extension after the appointments committee of the Central Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved to the proposal of the Union ministry of home affairs seeking extension of Saikia‘s service with additional three months considering it as a special case in the interest of public.
