Aizawl: Along with the rest of the country, Mizoram launched the Fit India movement with state deputy chief minister Tawnluia. The campaign was kicked off with the Fit India Run at Lammual or Assam Rifles ground in state capital Aizawl on Thursday morning.
Interestingly, five months before the nation-wide movement, Mizoram had already launched its own ‘Fit Mizoram Movement’ on March 22 this year.
Speaking at the launch, Tawnluia said the Fit India movement, launched on the occasion of National Sports Day on Thursday, aims to encourage people to take care of their physical and mental health, which is crucial for development of the country.
He said that the movement will be launched first in educational institutions across the state and the government will focus on health and fitness and find out talented sports persons through the movement.
Tawnluia also called upon the people of Mizoram and government officials to extend support to the government for the success of the movement. The event was attended by sports minister Robert Romawia Royte, officials and sport persons.
At the event, chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo administered a fitness pledge to over 1,750 people.
Royte said that the state government has already launched ‘Fit Mizoram Movement’ on March 22. The local movement which aims to encourage the people to inculcate physical health and sports activities was more or less similar with the nation-wide movement, he said.

The sports minister also appealed the Mizo people to be the fittest in the country.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide fitness movement on Thursday at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. He appealed every citizen to maintain healthy life and stay fit.
