Agartala: In a sudden development, the Central security guards of former chief minister Samir Ranjan Barman was replaced by the state police on Saturday.
A Z-plus security cover was provided to Barman as he lost the post of chief minister in 1993. The security cover was removed without any prior notice and a single armed state police constable was appointed in the entrance gate of his residence. Four security men in plain clothes have also been deployed for his security during his movement by the state police.
Condemning the move, president of the Tripura unit of the Congress party, Gopal Chandra Roy, said that it is planned political move by chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Speaking with EastMojo, Roy said, “If the security of Samir Ranjan is removed on grounds of an absence of any threats to him, then why does the chief minister himself move with 16 security men always? This means Deb himself is not safe under his government.”.
Barman served as the home minister of the Congress-TUJS government from 1988 to 1992 and as a chief minister till 1993. He served as MLA for several terms and as president of Pradesh Congress till 2009.
