Agartala: Tripura Khadi and Village Industries Board (TKVIB) will provide loan of Rs 6 crore to 300 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation programme (PMEGP) during the present financial year, TKVIB chairman Rajib Bhattacharjee announced this in Agartala on Monday evening.
Speaking at a press conference, Bhattacharjee said that the board would provide loan to farmers to boost their economy and double their income. Earlier, in 2018-19 financial year, the loan amount was Rs 5.17 crore and it was paid to only 77 beneficiaries.
Talking about expansion of TKVIB, board chairman said that the outlet at Paradise Chowmuhani in Agartala needs to be modernised with the introduction of online system, 10-20% discount on khadi products would be given for one month from September 1.

The board is precisely focusing on providing loans for entrepreneurship through which employment can be generated in large numbers.
The board of directors of the TKVIB conducted a meeting on Monday and several initiatives were taken to improve the condition of farmers and introduce employment through entrepreneurship, Bhattacharjee said.
In the meeting, discussion was done on various issues for upgrading the khadi and village industries, condition of farmers and employment generation through entrepreneurship.
Bhattacharjee said that initiatives would be taken to motivate the farmers cultivating ginger, black pepper, turmeric, etc, in marketing them and getting better market prices with the support from horticulture department and spices board divisional office of Agartala.
“Awareness programmes to be initiated for honey-bee harvesting as well as training would be given to those beekeepers through cluster mode in various districts of Tripura and materials along with five bee boxes would also be distributed among them,” he added.
