Tinsukia: Nostalgic about sharing your travel experience? Then this is your moment. Just script a captivating travel story of maximum 800 words on your “personal experience of an unexplored destination from Arunachal’s West Siang and Shi-Yomi districts” and stand a chance to win a free trip along with cash prizes.

The Arunachal Tourism Society Aalo in collaboration with West Siang district administration launched a travel writing contest on August 14.

The last date to submit entries is September 14.

District tourism officer Rita Yorung said, “This pan-India competition — open to candidates above the age of 18 years — is aimed to showcase the picturesque and serene beauty and tell the world about undiscovered tourist spots, so far not known to the world, and the potential of tourism in this less-travelled, western part of Arunachal Pradesh and boost tourism.”

Writers need to focus on nature of areas less explored, interaction with local populace and highlight the level of tourism potential in the areas described, Yorung said. “They can submit maximum of two photographs having relevance to the text and send it to dtotourism-alo-arn@nic.in. Write-up must be based on one’s own experience and not taken from any other printed or online work,” she added.

Besides the above, the judging criteria include creativeness of author, clarity of language and grammar, relevance of text to theme and content, relevance to caption and originality and style.

“Three winners will be selected,” said Yorung, adding, “All three winning entries will get an all-expense paid trip in few selected parts of West Siang & Shi-Yomi districts and the opportunity to showcase their experiences on government forum.

The three wimmers will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 35,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively, besides two consolation prizes of rupees Rs 5,000.

District information and publicity officer (DIPRO) Gijum Tali told EastMojo: “The author shall include name, age, gender, postal address, contact number, email address and occupation. Results will be announced on September 20 and displayed on the website: https://westsiang.nic.in.”

The prize distribution ceremony will be held at Aalo, the district headquarters of West Siang, on September 27, after which the paid trip will be undertaken. The winners will have to compulsorily take the trip and submit a brief write-up on their travel experiences after completion of the trip.
