Tripura govt plans to build 10 model villages across 8 districts

Agartala: In a move for uplifting the social, economic, cultural, linguistic and others issues of the indigenous population in Tripura, the state government has initiated to develop ‘model villages’ across the eight districts of the state.

The model villages will have all the basic amenities like drinking water, electricity, road connectivity, etc. as per the recommendation of the high-level committee (HLC), said state welfare minister Mewar Kumar Jamatia on Wednesday.

Speaking to the reporters, Jamatia said all the district magistrates and collectors concerned were requested to take necessary action for identification of tribal villages which are to be developed as a ‘model village’.

A specific detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared for the villages in consultation with concerned line departments as per parameters with financial involvement. A meeting in connection with this was also held with the departments to start the process at the earliest, the welfare minister said.

Among the 10 model villages in eight districts of Tripura, two villages each will be selected from Khowai and Dhalai districts while Sepahijala, Gomati, Unakoti, North, South and West districts will have one village each. However, the villages are yet to be identified as the process is yet to begin, Jamatia added.

Highlighting on the basic amenities required for development of each of the model village, the minister said that the amenities were divided into six categories — infrastructure, health, education, telecommunication, basic requirements and employment opportunities.

All these categories are broadly classified into — all weather road connectivity, safe drinking water, pucca sanitation facility, development and construction of village market, power connectivity, multipurpose community hall and irrigation system.

Primary health centre or sub-centre, veterinary health centre, one higher secondary school with toilet, boundary, drinking water, electricity and Internet connection, three primary schools, community playground and three Anganwadi centres are be provisioned in the model villages.

More facilities like “pucca dwelling house for BPL families, postal service or banking facility, LPG connection, ration shop and agriculture support centre, horti-plantation and activities like agri and allied, animal resource development department (ARDD) and pisciculture and formation of self-help group (SHG)”, the minister added.
