Aizawl: The Mizoram government on Tuesday drew flak from student bodies for abruptly terminating the ongoing recruitment process for Group B (non-gazetted) posts under the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC).
State’s apex student body, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), on Tuesday called on chief minister Zoramthanga on the issue and asked him to allow the MPSC to complete the ongoing recruitment for staff nurses, UDC and computer operators under various departments.
The MPSC on Monday abruptly ceased all recruitment process for Group B (Non-gazetted) posts and cancelled personal interviews for staff nurses, computer operators and UDC under health, animal husbandry and home departments, respectively.
A notification issued by MPSC joint secretary and public relations officer K Lalrinkima said the recruiting agency was no more competent authority to conduct recruitment for Group B (non-gazetted) posts after the MPSC (Limitation and functions) regulations, 1994 was amended and published on official gazette on June 21. Hence, all the ongoing recruitment for the said posts are ceased, the notification said.
MZP president L Ramdinliana Renthlei said that the government move will not only demoralise the students, but also affect their career. He said the chief minister had promised to complete the recruitment process.
Renthlei also quoted the chief minister as saying that he was not aware of the MPSC notification. “MPSC is an autonomous body which is not under the state government’s control. The recruitment agency will be asked to complete the on-going recruitment till the newly constituted subordinate recruitment body is functionalised,” Zoramthanga was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) also blamed the move and asked the state government to allow the MPSC to complete the recruitment process.
The MSU also slammed the government for attempting to recruit 881 teachers without written test.
In an attempt to relieve the MPSC of its burden, the state government had in June agreed to constitute a subordinate recruitment board to conduct recruitment for Group B (non-gazetted) post.
