Guwahati: Sprint queen Hima Das is on a roll. Having bagged five gold medals in less than a month, she is the talk of town.
Incidentally, the ace athlete from Assam is also winning hearts for showcasing her cooking skills, that too inside a hotel in far-off Europe.
In a video that has now gone viral, the incredibly quick and talented athlete is seen preparing an Assamese-style dal inside her hotel room on Sunday, and social media users are just loving it.

In the video, Das can be heard saying that since it was a Sunday, so there was no practice, hence, she was free to enjoy. She goes on to say that she has prepared “an Indian-style, specifically an Assamese-style dal”.
Adding that her room was filled with the flavourful aroma of the dal and people came asking her what has she had cooked, she said, “People went crazy after eating the dal.”
The sprinter said that she and Saritaben Gayakwad, another athlete from India, went to the market on Saturday and bought the sauce-pan and all the things required for cooking, while she had the induction cooktop ready beforehand.
Das added that there was a different feel in cooking outside the country, and ended the video with her popular catchphrase, “Mon jai” (which in Assamese roughly means ‘I feel like’.

Das is the pride of Assam and hails from a small town called Dhing in Nagaon district, hence the moniker ‘Dhing Express’. She came into the limelight with an iconic win at the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia last year, where she also created the current Indian national record in the 400-metre category.

The 19-year-old athlete’s latest gold medal came in Prague on July 20, where she clocked a season-best timing of 52.09 seconds, to win the the 400m race at the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix. Her personal best is 50.79 seconds, which she recorded at the 2018 Asian Games.
Earlier, she won a gold at a 200 m race in Tabor Athletic Meet on Wednesday. Prior to Tabor Athletic Meet, she won three gold at different events including a gold medal in Klado Athletic Meet, Kunto Athletics Meet, and Poznan Athletics Grand Prix.
