Diphu: The entrance gate of Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) was opened on Wednesday after a two days of lockdown following a massive protest carried out by the student members of Assam University Diphu Campus Students Union (AUDCSU) against the illegal appointment of a laboratory attendant in the physics department of AUDC.
While speaking to media persons, AUDC general secretary Rowan Teron said that the entrance gate of the university was reopened around 4 pm on Wednesday after the competent authority of the university constituted an inquiry committee against the unfair appointment of laboratory appointment Jayanta Sarkar.
A two-member inquiry team comprising Prof Dipendu Das and Dr Prodipto Das of Assam University Diphu Campus were appointed as the chairman and member of the inquiry committee, respectively. The inquiry committee will investigate into the entire matter and will suggest upon measures to resolve the issue in a report to be submitted to the vice-chancellor of AUDC within a week’s time.
The entrance gate of AUDC was locked down on July 15, after an hour-long protest carried out by the student members of the institute against the illegal appointment of a laboratory attendant in the physics department of the institute.
The students’ union alleged that Jayanta Sarkar was appointed for the position by depriving Jonasing Rongpi, who has been working as the laboratory attendant of the department for almost 10 years.
Meanwhile, the AUDC authority appealed protesting students to reconsider the agitation programme and also requested to facilitate the ensuing academic activities in the greater interest of students’ community.
