Itanagar: Pasighat town in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh is all set to host the 25th edition of the Senior Women’s National Football Championship from September 10 to 30. The premier competition women’s teams representing regional and state football associations in India will be played at the newly constructed stadium of Pasighat.
According to an official source, a total of 30 teams comprising around 700 players and sports officials from across the country would take part in the competition.
Meanwhile, to ensure that historic event is conducted in a smooth and grand manner, East Siang deputy commissioner Dr Kinny Singh on Tuesday convened a coordination meeting with the state and district sports officials, administrative officers and heads of departments at her office in Pasighat.
Arunachal Pradesh Football Association state coordinator Orin Lego, Secretary Kipa Ajay, East Siang district sports officer Nada Apa and other sports officials briefed the DC about the requirements and challenges to conduct the championship.
After a thorough discussion on various topics like effective management, medical facilities, security, water and power supplies, development of ground, transport etc the DC urged the sports officials and head of offices to submit their requirements/ proposals/ estimates immediately to her office so that the same could be forwarded to the state authority for the necessary sanctions.
“The tournament, though in particular is meant to provide an opportunity to the participating teams to showcase their talent, but it is also an opportunity for us to showcase our hospitability, ability, culture and tradition to the rest of the county,” the East Siang DC said.
“Besides encouraging the new generation to take up games and sports, such mega events would also help promote tourism and hotel industry/home stays, etc, of the district,” she added.
